Enable the -dBm signal meter

Here’s something I’ve been doing since iOS 4.1 I believe if not earlier. Doing this trick will give you a more accurate signal reading than the meaningless default meter bars. It requires you to put the iPhone into field test mode without any jailbreaking and it’s pretty simple.

To enter field test mode, open the phone app then dial *3001#12345#* as you would any other call (you can also copy/paste this too if necessary). Tap “Call” and your in, that’s it. You’ll notice the signal bars are now represented by a numerical -dB signal strength meter.

From here if you prefer this more accurate and meaningful numbered signal strength meter to the bars just follow these next few steps to keep that displayed when you leave field test mode.

Hold down the sleep button till the red slider bar appears, release the sleep button then press and hold the home button until the home screen appears. That’s it. You can now display both -dBm and bars. Swiping a finger over the signal dislplay will now switch between the two.

To disable the -dBm meter setting if you’re still in field test mode simply press the home button and the default bars will reappear.

If you find you really don’t like the -dBm meter at all and already have it enabled. Just dial *3001#12345#* again to renter field test mode then just press the home button and the default bars will reappear again.

  1. Hi there great website! Does running a blog such as this require a great deal of work?
I have no knowledge of coding however I had been hoping to start my own blog soon.
Anyway, if you have any ideas or tips for new blog owners please share.
I understand this is off topic but I simply wanted to ask.

    Thank you!

  2. Hi there, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam remarks?
If so how do you stop it, any plugin or anything
you can advise? I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any help is very much appreciated.

  3. I enjoy what you guys are up too. This kind of clever
work and reporting! Keep up the great works guys I’ve added you guys to our blogroll.

  4. No, I haven’t had and spam problems on my blog. Depending on who is hosting your site they may have spam filters to help you out.

If it really gets out of control then the hosting site may be comprised and unable to do anything about it.

  5. Running a blog requires only the amount of work you want to put into it. There are numerous sites out there that host blogs requiring you to do nothing more than a little setup, no programming and just write til your hearts content.

  6. Hi just came upon your website from Google after I typed
in, “Enable the -dBm signal meter | Wyatt’s Tech Corner” or
perhaps something similar (can’t quite remember exactly). Anyways, I’m delighted I found it because your content is exactly what I’m looking for (writing a university paper) and I hope you don’t mind
if I collect some material from here and I will of course credit
you as the source. Thank you very much.

  7. The theme I use was obtained from WordPress. Many themes are contributed by a third party and can be bought I believe.

  8. Do you have a spam problem on this blog; I also am a
blogger, and I was wondering your situation; many of us have created some nice
methods and we are looking to trade methods with others, please
shoot me an email if interested.

  9. Nice blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?
A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements
would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your theme.
    Kudos

  10. First of all, I want to point out that dieting and exercises are best methods for fat loss.
For a speedy withdrawal of fat, avoid all “white” carbohydrates such as
bread, pasta, cereal and potatoes. ” If this happens, weight loss will slow down and it will become more and more difficult to maintain a healthy weight.

  11. This feature is not happening with iOS 7.. 😦 holding the sleep button while you on FT mode to get “Slide to power Off” and pushing the home button which should lead us to main screen however with iOS 7 it just loop back us to FT Mode
