With all this talk of Apple working on a table Mac what if that really isn’t entirely the case. It’s something I’ve been thinking about ever since the subject was brought up. There’s been lots of speculation, rumor from unknown sources, rumor from so called trusted sources and yet we still have no concrete evidence to prove it. Don’t get me wrong I believe Apple to be the master of keeping secrets so I may be dead wrong.
Now, what I’ve been thinking about is… what if Apple is also working on the next iPhone/iPod Touch but an all screen version. One without a physical home button. Since phones, smart or not are never truly off, it isn’t such a far fetched idea. Hasn’t it been said that Steve Jobs doesn’t like buttons in the first place. Look both devices already have a power button and the home button is just another way to access the lock screen anyway. If you take away the physical home button you are not losing any functionality that can’t be accomplished in another fashion. We know that Steve Jobs and Apple just love to innovate; just look at the new Magic Mouse for example. A multi-touch pointing device that according to reviews, many people actually like and it seems to work well. So, why not get rid of the physical home button entirely. It would just be one less movable point of possible failure on the device and could also be a way to make use of that extra space on either side of it. The more I think about it the more I think it is very possible. guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
