If you’re like me you don’t often think about stocks outside of their current market value. I have also never met a mobile software application to make me excited about it either. But, Bloomberg from Bloomberg LP just might make me see things differently. And for you high stressed stock brokers and the like out there who already do, read on as this might be your next best friend after those Tums on your desk. Read More »

All was fine last week; I was jotting down ideas for some articles I might post along with some more iPhone app reviews. This past Monday I get a phone call at work from my wife around 8:00pm. She tells me the laptop crashed and would not restart. Okay, I said just unplug it and I’ll check it out when I get home later.
So I get home and I can’t get it up and running long enough to even attempt to repair it nor do I have enough time play around. I could have easily just wiped the whole thing and start from scratch but I don’t want to go through all that if it’s not necessary

WordPress for the iPhone to the rescue. Normally I use it to write my drafts until I get home were I can post it with pictures. But until my day off (tomorrow, thank God) where I can spend some time with my laptop and see what’s really the problem; from here on in all my posts will be done from my iPhone.

Technology failed me, but redeemed itself and saved me too. Thanks WordPress.

Ilium Software has been around for quite some time and eWallet has been a big hit for them among Windows Mobile users for years. Now, Ilium has answered the calls of iPhone owners and brought eWallet over for us to enjoy.

Ilium seems to have put a lot of work and effort into this application. They’ve made it easy to use, it looks and feels like the built-in applications and it works well. Obviously they have also spent a lot time and thought into the functioning of this application to keep it in line with their other versions. While it is very detailed, it is not complicated to use nor does it inundate you with lots of choices you will never use or forget about later.

I had no problems getting started with this application. I came from using Flexwallet for many years and had some serious reservation about switching to another SIM again. But seeing how this is a good combination of the two software titles I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at how quickly and easily I was able to navigate my way around. Not one time did I feel lost like I didn’t know what I was doing. Read More »

I last posted my thoughts on what the App Store needs to really give the iPhone longevity and not be relegated to just another fad phone or even worse an Apple only, fanboys toy. So today I’ll just give a quick once over on how I feel the App Store is doing. To kick things off on opening day the App Store had 550+ software titles available for free or purchase from single developers to large software houses. Having browsed around I’d have to say that the App Store is indeed off to a good start. What’s really going to get the ball rolling is the development and release of software titles we already know and use on other platforms. I say this because the large software devlopers for Windows Mobile for example have software titles that have already matured and don’t have any more room to grow. Many of these developers are at a point where they are just adding features and cleaning up bad or inefficient code. The iPhone gives developers a new place to start and a more defined set of tools and rules to follow to develop from. So, by releasing good classic software titles in the App Store it will not only drive more people over to the iPhone platform. It will also give the iPhone a solid core set of third party applications to rely on which is what is needed for any mobile platform to survive. Listed below are just some of the software titles I tried out and what I think of them.

I have found the iPhone to be a good smartphone even though it may not do everything every other smartphone does; it doesn’t necessarily make it any less of a device. All of the devices we have grown accustomed to and use today started out the same way… at the bottom and fighting for market share. The iPhone is no different and in this case Apple seems to have taken the approach to the smartphone from a slightly different angle. It first created a 100% finger touch user-interface wrapped around a media player, web browser and phone housed in a well designed package to create a consumer device. Now that the iPhone has proven to be popular and a hit among consumer, it’s time to move on to the enterprise market while still increasing its presence in the consumer market. In a few days the updated iPhone 2.0 software will be released and the App Store will be open to help accomplish this task. The App Store will hopefully get filled with software in the next coming months that will increase the usefulness of the iPhone beyond what we do with it today. Read More »
